With just 4 ingredients, this Keto Cheese Sauce is a very easy low-carb white sauce with just 1g net carbs, great over steak, vegetables, or chicken.

A delicious Keto Cheese Sauce – Aka Low-carb “Bechamel” sauce that you can make with cream cheese easily to add flavor and fat to many meat and vegetable dishes.
We use Mozzarella Cheese to thicken our keto cheese sauce (also known as “bechamel sauce”) as Cheddar Cheese releases a lot of oil when added. Mozzarella cheese also blends well when making a low-carb white sauce with cream cheese.
This keto cheese sauce recipe makes ten servings. One serve is 100ml/3.5oz.
Ingredients for Keto Cheese Sauce
- 8 ounces of Cream Cheese
- 1 cup of Butter
- 1 cup of Heavy Cream
- 2 cups of Mozzarella Cheese, shredded
When choosing the cream cheese for this low-carb white sauce, just be sure that you select the “full cream.” Avoid any no-fat or skim cream cheese. You want your sauce to be low-carb, not low-fat.
How To Make Keto Cheese Sauce
- In a saucepan, place the cream cheese, butter, and heavy cream and place over low heat.
- Continue stirring until the cream cheese has melted and all ingredients are combined.
- Add the mozzarella cheese and whisk continuously until it is melted and thoroughly combined.
- Use the sauce immediately, or store it in the fridge. Reheat over low heat, whisking continuously.

Can I use half mozzarella and half parmesan?
Not sure about that, Debbie. you can try but the parmesan will definitely change the consistency. But it may work. There’s only one way to find out.
This was delicious!! I added a little bit of salt, pepper and some nutmeg to make it taste more like a bechamel. I poured it over some steamed cauliflower, added some Trader Joe’s shredded emmental/swiss cheese mix and baked it in the oven at 400F for 15 mins. Delicious!!

After beginning my low carb journey 13 months ago (and reaping the benefits of 22 kg weight loss in the first 6 months and most importantly a reduction of the inflammation in my osteoarthrititic knees) I desperately needed a low carb cheese sauce for my cauliflower au gratin.
